OXFAM Inequality -- Zimbabwe
Because of Zimbabwe’s Marxist/ Leninist ideological history, the term ‘capital’ consistently rings a socialist bell in the consciousness of a greater number of political actors of the liberation struggle during the 1980s and 1990s.‘Capital’ in Zimbabwe is largely controlled by those in political power, those with inherited businesses/wealth, and those linked to the political elite, thereby widening the gap between the rich and the poor. In Zimbabwe, we feature the works of activists like Pastor Evan Marawire and the Magamba movement, who are using creative tools like social media, hip hop and satire, to inspire young people to be part of the change the country desperately needs.
