OXFAM Inequality - Kenya

We feature one of the most outspoken energetic, Afro-fusion bands, Sarabi, that has been gaining popularity for its hard-hitting songs that challenge corruption, poverty and injustices in Kenya. We reveal how crucial it is to have a ‘bottom-up’ approach to the fight against inequality and showcase their journey – a story of hope and the struggle for equal rights and justice for all, also intertwined with their own individual struggles while having lived in extreme poverty in Kenya’s informal settlements, as said by Sarabi’s lead singer Nelson, “We use music as a weapon to challenge the system and demand change. Our lyrics are so hard-hitting because it comes from hunger, anger and frustration. And until that change comes, we will take it to the stage and call for it.”
